What We Believe
At Brown Hill A.M.E. Zion Church, our faith is firmly rooted in the Holy Bible and the historic Christian teachings of the African Methodist Episcopal Zion Church.
The African Methodist Episcopal Zion Church is a Wesleyan-Methodist Christian denomination. Its doctrine is rooted in the Holy Bible, the historic Christian faith, the teachings of John Wesley, and the denomination's 25 Articles of Religion. These foundational beliefs guide our worship, shape our ministry, and inspire our commitment to sharing the love and Gospel of Jesus Christ.
As a congregation of the A.M.E. Zion Church, we are committed to proclaiming the Gospel, nurturing spiritual growth, pursuing holy living, serving our community with compassion, and making disciples for Jesus Christ.
We Believe in the Holy Bible
The Holy Bible is the inspired Word of God and the final authority for our faith, doctrine, and daily living. It reveals God's plan of salvation and provides guidance for living a Christ-centered life.
We Believe in the Trinity
We believe in one eternal God who exists in three Persons—God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit. Together, they are one in essence, power, and glory.
We Believe in Jesus Christ
Jesus Christ is the Son of God, fully divine and fully human. Through His death on the cross and His resurrection, He provided salvation for all who place their faith in Him. He reigns as Lord and will return again in glory.
We Believe in Salvation
Salvation is the free gift of God's grace, received through faith in Jesus Christ. Through repentance, forgiveness, and new life in Christ, believers are called to grow in faith and reflect His love in their daily lives.
We Believe in the Holy Spirit
The Holy Spirit empowers, comforts, teaches, and transforms believers. Through the Spirit, Christians are equipped to live holy lives, serve others, and share the Gospel with the world.
We Believe in Holy Living
Following the teachings of John Wesley, we believe every Christian is called to pursue a life of holiness through prayer, worship, discipleship, service, and continual spiritual growth. Our faith is demonstrated through love for God and love for others.
We Believe in the Sacraments
We observe the two sacraments established by Jesus Christ:
- Baptism – A sign of God's grace and our commitment to Christ.
- Holy Communion – A sacred remembrance of Christ's sacrifice and a celebration of our fellowship with Him.
We Believe in the Church's Mission
The Church exists to glorify God by worshiping Him, making disciples, proclaiming the Gospel, serving those in need, and demonstrating Christ's love in our communities and throughout the world.
We Believe in Justice, Compassion, and Service
Known as "The Freedom Church," the A.M.E. Zion Church has a rich legacy of advocating for freedom, justice, education, and equality. We believe every person is created in the image of God and deserves to be treated with dignity, respect, and Christ-like love.
We Believe in the Hope of Eternal Life
We believe Jesus Christ will return, the dead will be raised, and all people will stand before God. Those who trust in Christ will enjoy eternal life in His presence.
